The project initiates a long-term cooperation to establish a Thai-German bio-energy system analysis network. This international and interdisciplinary network aims at connecting current research topics in Thailand and Germany by involving excellent researchers from both countries. The Thai-German Researcher Mobility Scheme is intended to foster the identification of common research topics and the definition of future joint research projects as well as to support the application process for funding of research projects. Further, bi-directional knowledge transfer and the promotion of young scientists shall be supported. The interdisciplinary Thai-German network will work in the research areas logistics, environment / biodiversity and agriculture.
The application oriented aim of the research network is to carry out system analyses with focus on renewable raw materials and energies in Thailand beyond the sketched political background. On the one hand it is intended to identify sustainably usable biomass potentials for designated regions in Thailand and to develop techno-economic utilization strategies for these biomass potentials on the other hand. In doing so, the integration into the energy system and the consequences in terms of energy market design involving all stakeholders have to be considered. It is reflected if and how the set political targets can be achieved or need revision. The results serve therefore as decision support for science, industry and politics.
The analysis and modelling of alternative utilization strategies for biomass in designated regions in Thailand includes an integrated approach to the evaluation and optimization of biomass supply chains and the integration of their products into existing and new markets. In order to bring together the complementary experiences and knowledge, research activities along six working packages in Thailand and Germany are carried out. The results are brought together in six workshops which are held alternating in Thailand and Germany. To foster the joint research, publications in high ranked scientific journals as well as presentations at conferences are intended.
