Since January 1, 2011, the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) has been bundling all work on storing electrical energy for mobile and stationary applications in the "Competence E" project. This globally unique focus of 26 institutes from the fields of chemistry, materials research, production and process engineering, electrical engineering, product development, automotive systems, computer science, and technology assessment on the overall system "Electrical Energy Storage" will make it possible to develop industrially applicable solutions for storage and drive systems. An integrated approach from the molecule to the battery, the electric motor with power electronics and the fully functional electric drive is being pursued.
