The objective of this project is to generate essential knowledge about the key questions of the market design and to contribute to the structured discussion about the future design options of the electricity market and the renewable energy funding. Thereby, the investment incentives for conventional power plants should be also focused. The main question is the economic feasibility of power plants in an energy-only-market dominated by renewable electricity generation. Furthermore, it should be analyzed which regulatory measure regarding the market design has to be changed, so that future energy system gives satisfying incentives for new investments, which in turn should guarantee the security of supply. The analyzed measures contain capacity mechanisms, such as centralized or decentralized capacity markets and strategic reserves.
